Default LS1 C2 combination

I know I promised to never ask another C2 engine question, but.. my brother insists that a late model all aluminum Ls1 would slip right in to a 65' project car I'm toying with. So the question as usual is ...has any one sucessfully done this conversion? And if so , what manner of hell did you put yourself through to get it done.
This came up because of my desire to have fuel injection on whatever small block I install in this convertible...and the Ls1 seems to be right in the hp range I'm looking for. By the way , the vert' is a small block car with the origional small block hood and I want to keep the origional exterior appearance. As always I truly appreciate your imput. Phil

There's a LS1 C2 in Austin... doesn't look like too hard of a swap if you have some decent fabrication skills. If you want to go for an even easier retro-fit, you should look into an LT1 or LT4. It bolts right in to a C2, which is why I went with an LT1 on my '67. I dynoed my internally stock LT1 with headers and an electric water pump, and put down 296 rwhp and over 300 ft/lbs of torque (forget the exact torque reading).

No real fabrication skills needed. Pretty much every part you need is available off the shelf. The motor will bolt right up to the stock mounts with a set of motor mount adapter plates from S&P. It pretty much sits in the stock location, and about the only thing special about it is the computer harness and the high pressure fuel pump. The LS1 gives you a great running combo that idles smooth, scares the hell out of you when wide open, and gets great fuel economy! I have one in a C1 and am putting a LS2 in a 65 now.

John,

I see you decided on the LS2 for your 65. I'd love to follow your resto-rodification, are you going to put up a website for it or a link with pictures?

Cheers,

Islander
