Be advised that "new" spray can JDBB is no longer the same gloss as the "old" JDBB. I shot a test coupon of old & new and it is at least 15* gloss different. They changed numbering systems, and it looks like they changed vendors as the can is different and the gloss is WAY different. I used to buy it by the case. Not any more. YMMV...
I haven't bought any for quite awhile. Last time I looked, they had 3 different "Blitz Black" paints: "high gloss", "medium gloss", and "muffler black". I think the applicable one is "medium gloss"; the correct one carried the part number "PT 107"... but it IS possible they've changed the gloss in the formula since I last purchased it.
I asssume you are looking for engine compartment blackout paint... you should be looking for an eggshell or satin gloss, as opposed to a flat or a high gloss.
John Deere Blitz Black (#PT 107) has been touted as being a tough coating with proper gloss.
Others have reported using:
SEM brand black satin trim paint (#39143; check major paint stores, not K-mart, for this)
Well, there used to be lots of farms and orchards here back in the day -before 'Silicon Valley'. Seems the nearest JD dealer is more than 50 miles away now. Nearest TSC is 200 miles away! ..

Krylon semi-flat black
Yes, engine compartment blackout paint is what I'm looking to get. Krylon should be easy enough to come by. SEM sounds interesting, too. I'm thinking to maybe do a spot heads up comparison between these two and see how they compare in sheen to what 'looks' about right.
Thanks for the replies ..

If you do the comparison please keep us posted on your findings, also please let us know what you thought about spray quality and ease of use of each brand.
Did a visual comparison of rattle can Krylon #1613 Semi Flat Black and SEM Trim Black # 39143. Both were a very close match in both color and sheen. I looked at both samples more than a few times in different lighting positions. It was tough to tell them apart! ..
I felt the SEM trim black had a slight edge in application and also a slightly smoother look in overall gloss sheen and finish compared to the Krylon black. The SEM paint spray fan was also somewhat finer and about twice as wide as the Krylon. The SEM paint wins my vote for engine compartment blackout ..
