Default C/3 member needs intake help.

I never thought I would be posting in the C1/C2 section but maybe you guys can help. I was given a set of old Corvette valve covers off my brothers 65 vette he owned in the early 70's and I want to put them on my 1975 350cu corvette. I know I needed a intake manifold for the oil fill so I went to the junkyard and bought a manifold . The casting # is 3844459. will this manifold work ? where does the PCV valve go ? do I need the PCV valve with a vented oil fill ? Thanks in advance.

That cast iron intake was used on '63-'65 300hp engines, and requires a Carter AFB carburetor with a hot-air choke system, with a different right side exhaust manifold for the hot air feed (your Q-Jet won't work on it); the PCV valve threads into a fitting on the oil fill tube (you'll need one from a '66 or '67 with the fitting) and takes a hose from the PCV valve to the carb base. In addition, your 350 block doesn't have the crankcase vent hole at the back (the "intake" side of the PCV system on pre-'68 cars), so you'll need to cut a hole in one of the valve covers anyway for an intake hose to the air cleaner or for a breather. There are many other minor details of your '75 (carb linkage, electrical sensors, fuel line, etc.) that aren't compatible with the old manifold and carb as well, and your air cleaner won't fit on the AFB either.

Seems like a lot of time, money, and grief to expend just to use a pair of old valve covers - I'd leave it alone and use stock or aftermarket valve covers that accommodate your existing PCV valve, oil fill, and air cleaner hose connections - there are hundreds of them out there that will just bolt on and require no other changes.
