Default C2 to C3 Spindle Supports?

I posted earlier about using the larger 3" C3 half-shafts, I have now been told the C3 spindle supports were stronger parts. I am trying to beef up my rear end assembly, are the later C3 spindle supports the right way to go?

Yes, I guess you could say that they are a little stronger, but I have never had any real problem with any of them except for bearing failures, and they are the same for all.

There are some differences, look and you'll see some webbing cast in for support in the legs. Some of the bores are straight and others have a cavity for grease. Some have a flat milled on the bottom of the leg radius, not sure why. The only thing I do to them is grind a slight radius at the base where the legs start. Some of the large head strut rods may bind there in extreme travel, grinding the radius will free it up.

Gary are we talking about the axles and their holders?? I think of spindles as related to the front only.

Hi Norval,
Yes, the rear bearing housing is called a spindle support.

Thanks for the info guys. I've seen the C3 spindle supports and, as Gary describes, they seem to have a little better support for the strut rods. I have a mechanic that really believes this is a good upgrade. I guess I am looking for a sanity check. I figure while I'm in there I might as well try to get the best parts I can.

Norval:

Not sure why they call it the spindle support but Gary's got it right.

...I'm guessing that the "spindle support", carries the bearing cups which "hold (support)" the spindle bearings (cones), and spindle assembly.

Just an educated guess...from a not so educated guy!
