Muncie drain plug install

For those of you that have installed a drain plug in their transmission, what thread size did you use and where did you place the plug?

3/8" NPT at the boss on pass side. Use a drill press for sure. Not to be attempted while trans is in car.

I installed one in the front base. I used a 1/4" NPT but bushed it down to 1/8 NPT so i don't "work" the aluminum threads all the time.

3/8 NPT ...I drilled while my 66 was on my friends lift....

... the warm trans fliuid washed

out all the shavings.........worked for me....................the Dog.

Think that the trans fluid would wash out the drill shavings, but what about the tap shavings? Think you would need to flush a little more fluid through there after the tapping operation. But, the aluminum from the case is pretty soft (compared with the rest of the materials inside), so even a stray piece should not harm the internals of the trans.
