I sent an email to DeWitt to see what he thinks since he is the radiator expert.I went to Pep Boys and the G05 antifreeze says ford and other cars but did not say GM. Was I looking at the wrong stuff?
Since about 1996 all GM cars have used Dexcool as factory fill. That's the vast majority of the replacement market. They don't pay any attention to cars over 10 years old.
Zerex G-05 is a HOAT formulation that has been used in Mercedes Benz cars for probably at least 20 years. All Chrysler/Dodge cars made the switch after the merger, and Ford switched to G-05 in 2002.
Most of the Japanese OEs use a OAT blend that is different than Dexcool as there is one component in Dexcool they do not like.
As I said previously, the industy consensus is that a HOAT product should be used in cars that were originally equipped with green stuff, which is being phased out of production, and based on my research, I agree with this recommendation, but you are not going to see a specific recommendation by any manufacturer that this or that product is specific for your vintage Corvette.
