Default Wheel Source

Have been looking at purchasing a set of Torque Thrust II wheels for a 65 Vert. Understand that the ones I would want which will clear my calipers are the II Classics (CL205) but what backset? Do I need a spacer with these to make them work? If I were to buy an old set of Torque Thrust II D I have the same questions. Last but not least, anyone have a good source for best price and delivery?

Thanks ahead of time.

I just bought a set of Chrome Torque Thrust Ds from Newstalgia wheels on the internet.. with the tires mounted. They seem to have a competitive price for the package. Their website is http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/ I bought based on price and a shipping special when I bought the tires with the wheels. I was impressed, I ordered on a Saturday on the internet, they emailed me Sunday to let me know it might take three days instead of the usual 2 because they needed to get more wheels, and then when I asked for a special delivery date because I was going out of town, they arranged that as well. They also seem pretty knowledgeable as to what wheel fits what cars.

I can't help you with the back spacing, but there are several archived threads you can find by searching that covers that topic pretty well. I have a 59 with the original drum brakes so my information won't apply. It is likely the company you go with can verify what wheel spacing you need and the best way to meet it. The Torque Thrust II is fairly popular with guys on this forum and if you can't find anything on the archives, I am confident someone will have some good advice.

Good luck,

Jon

What size TTII's were you looking to buy? I have 15x6's on my car. As far as back-spacing , I think they only come one way. No spacers are needed. I think the back-spacing is 3 and 3/8ths. If you are looking into 16s or 17s, I'm sure there are folks here who could help you with the back-spacing on those wheels, how wide did you want to go?

Nassau
I am looking at 15x6 for the C2. Other guy is talking about a C1. What I have seen listed is a 3 inch and a 3 1/4 back. I suppose that's to accomodate a wider tire maybe? If you are talking about a C2, are you running 215/70/15s on your wheels?

Thanks.

Alec,

I don't have the wheels yet to get a picture for you unfortunately. I don't get the wheels until next week and the car is getting ready for paint right now (I just removed the windshield yesterday). I know Plasticman has some pics of his with TT Ds. His have the "off" centers that are darker... they look great. I am going with the all chrome TT Ds. They are similar to the TT IIs which are polished alloy as opposed to the chrome, but I think both look great on a C1. You can get an idea by looking at Plasticman's car (his avatar shows the wheels), just know that the TT IIs are shiny in the middle. The shape of the TT D is a bit different that the IIs but not too much... Search the archives and you will find pictures of TT IIs on C1s and C2s.

Here is a link to the wheels I've got coming: http://www.americanracing.com/wheels...ated&section=V

Below is a picture of TT IIs on a midyear... I went with the TT Ds only because I knew the spacing was right for a C1...I am unsure about the TT IIs...they might work, I was just uncertain... the spacing is a bit different.

These are 15 x 6" CL205s. The backspacing is 3 3/8." No spacer is needed. They are two-piece wheels (centres welded to outers) custom-made by AR for a car's specs; in this instance a C2. Delivery time is about eight weeks.

They come with grey, powder-coated centres. I chose to alter that to black.

Thanks Paul. It has been your pictures that has gotten me of the mind to get these wheels. Your car is just right with the wheels as they are. The black mod was a good one. Sets it apart from all the rest of the TTIIs out there. I was hoping that AR made them in aluminum only but haven't seen those in the CL205 version.

I believe they are magnesium not aluminum. But still nice. They are not chrome.
