Any trick to putting on hubcaps without denting them at all. I usually use a rubber hammer but even that leaves marks. I just bought a new set and want to keep them perfect. thanks Mike
I have carpal tunnel in both wrists and find my arms to be in great pain if I use either for a hammer. I wax the rims, put masking tape over the contact points and push the cover on or gently tap them with a cleam rubber hammer. IMO wax the hubcap and put an old sock over the rubber hammer face if you can't push the caps on.
Get them started with the palm of your hand. Then tap them home with about of a 4" long block of soft 2 x 4 (like pine) and a medium sized ball peen hammer - tap lightly at 60 to 90 degree arc spacing, going around about two or three times until they are seated.
Be sure to watch that the wheel cover does not touch and bend the valve stem.
