'66 vert - advice?
Hi Folks
I'm quite new to the market of midyears vettes and I'm following this forum since some month now and found many usefull informations. I know some basics about vintage cars (my dad builded race cars in the sixties and seventies) and my first purchase when I started looking for a midyear was the Noland Adams book.
I'm currently looking at a '66 convertible base model (327-300HP - no PB, PS or A/C), never restored. Inspected it in, out and underneath. The car seemed to have been well maintained (has receipts from the last 10 - 15 years or so) but not to NCRS standards. I'm not looking for an all original car, just a good driver. It's by far the most complete and well maintained "affordable" C2 I've seen around.
VIN TAG 194676S100211
Engine ID & VIN 6S100211 – F0830HE
early september 1965 build date I suppose ?
TRIM TAG
A31
66467 – A0105
414B – 980
Engine bay – wrong valve covers

Frame, side rails – hole from unidentified origin on both sides.

I had a concern about the uneven level of the rear wheels while on the lift, but once on the ground the car sits level.

Front – dents on oil pan, oil leak, exhaust????, surface rust.

Interior, dash – All gauges work, including clock, original radio still in place but a new radio-cd player with remote control has been added in the glove box.

Body – deck-lid needs adjustement, paint has some minor scratch altough it's a fine looking 10 feet car.

I drove the car a few miles, it drives straight, didn't ear any suspect noise, no play in transmission.
The parking brake needs some adjustement (hard to pull)
Regarding the receipts, the transmission seemed to have been redone in late 2000.
Any comment will be appreciated.
Thanks.

If your looking for a driver, this car should fit the bill! The frame, holes was probably a bubba side pipe install at some point! This car had the rearend gone through as well!
Car looks very nice, but it all depends on price??????

The vacuum advance on the distributor is not hooked up, and check for possible front pinion seal leak. No big deal on either. The frame looks good. As stated before, just might be for you....price?
This just kills me... A 40 year old car and prospective buyers pick everything from a valve cover to the none GM fuel filter. GET A LIFE.... it took years of dust to get this far. No one intended to keep it in a plastic bag complete with new car smell for another down the road owner. These people should order a new C-6, have it delivered on a roll back, place it in the basement, and mail the keys to their newest born relative. Then they could have a prime example of correct, correct, new. I don't mind knowledgeable people... but after a few comments like this the car would no longer be for sale to them, I would lock the doors and leave. What ever happened to common sense!!!!
Thanks very much for the replies Folks, this gonna help in my decision.
Well, I forget to mention that I'm in Switzerland and there are not many C2 for sale around here. This one stands 140 miles from my home town.
Concerning the price, it's a bit tough to compare with the US market. This car was imported from north america about 1 - 1 1/2 year ago. So considering the cost of transportation, custom fees, registration, etc... which add approximately 35-40% to the value of the car, the price can be estimated at around $33-35'000 in USA. But once again, these cars are rare around here.
I'm trying to gain some discount, but I'm not expecting much if nothing

jr427, as Christopher asked, "Any comments will be appreciated". This forum contains invaluable assets and they are free for the asking. So those of us with 30-35 years experience just happen to see things!
