I am considering installing a mirror on the Right hand side (passenger) of my '58. Does anyone know if this was an available option on the '58? They are available from Corvette Central with the correct identifying #'s. I have become so used to using the RH mirror on my regular car that I really would love to have it on my '58 (especially when the soft top is up) but don't want to hurt the value or authenticity of the car. Any input?
Thanks,
Vinny
This was never an option on C1 cars, and you will find that although it sounds like a good idea, it does not work that well. The mirror on the driver's side is forward of the door post, but the angle is such that the driver can see in it fine. On the passenger side the mirror will have to be moved to the rear substantially to allow you to see in it from the driver's seat. It also offers a pretty small view with the small mirror and the great distance from the driver.
I installed a right side mirror on my all original 63 swc and on my 64 coupe. I love the feeling of safety when I can see the cars I pass in the right side mirror. I have not had one person at an all Corvette shows that even noticed the two mirrors. The car looks more balanced and it makes sense. Do it.

It is not an ideal solution as John as noted but I find it does add a margin of safety (especially on a C2 coupe) that is sorely lacking with just one outside mirror. Value and authenticity of my car were secondary considerations as you can see by choice of hood for a SB vehicle.

Vinny,
John is right about the placement of the passenger side mirror on a C1. We bought the passenger side mirror from Corvette Central (it's still sitting in it's original package) to see how it might work on our 62 but found to make it useful required moving it well rearward of the drivers side location which looked a little odd.
To see how it would work just have someone hold and position the mirror while you are in the drivers seat and see how you like it. It would certainly be nice to have one but you might not like the positioning or how much you can see from it.
