Anyone got any detailed instructions how to install carpet in a '65 conv.
I'm a first timer and I want some good info so I can do it right and not ruin the carpet. Thanks.
No detailed instructions here but several hints. Lay it out in the sun first to get it more flexible and help it lay right. Use 3M spray adhesive to secure it - probably best to lay it in place and position it first and then pull one side up and spray the underlayment and back side of the carpet and then lay it back down - then do the other half. Don't get any overspray on the topside or interior trim however, as it can be murder to get off. Don't cut any excess off until the last thing and especially be careful that you don't cut it too short where it runs up to the console plate and the door sills. Use an awe to locate the seat belt mounting holes and then you can cut two cross slits for the bolt. I read somewhere about some one using a hot device to more or less melt the hole into the carpet for the bolt which sealed the edges of the hole and prevents pulled threads. I forget what they used but maybe someone will remember. I think the 65 front seat frame mounting bolts are like the 66 in that GM cut a slit in the carpet and the frame and attachment bolt slip under the carpet so they are not visible normally. Be careful when fastening bolts or screws through the carpet with power tools - they can catch and pull a thread which will ruin your day.
I'm looking at carpet for the 65 also. Going with Al Knoch probably.
Somebody (one of the suppliers) has a video out on how to install it, not sure who. Maybe that will help?
I have heard estimates from 4 hours to two days to install it. I think I may make mine a winter project though.
Probably going to remove hockey sticks and rechrome while seats are out at same time.
