Backfire through sidepipes.

Backfire through sidepipes.
On two occasions while starting my 67 BB 400 it popped through the sidepipes. Upon trying a second time it fired up without a hitch.Both times it happened after the car was warm and sat for a few minutes.The car runs fine except for the backfire.Any ideas as to the cause?

Wire missing that connects from starter solnoid (marked with an R) to pos terminal on coil. Low battery or dirty battery terminals. Split a Midas muffler this past spring because of this issue. 
Midas gave me a new pair anyway.
