Do you have an MSD ignition? I don't remember the details but mine came with a diode that was required if one experienced the problem you are describing. I think that there was just enough current that came through the alternator or ammeter circuit that the ignition could keep running with the key turned off. Just a thought.
Put a voltmeter on the coil and tell us if it has 12volts all the time when the points are open or 12-14 when the engine is running. If so the solenoid (12volt start circuit) wire is providing power. In that case the solenoid may be bad, but my guess is that the starter wiring is fried and the pink wire is fried to one of the 12volt battery wires.
If the coil has less than 12 volts, it is coming from the pink ignition line from the key switch through the ballast resistor that lowers the voltage for running (as opposed to starting).
