Default question about offset trailing arms

Do the half shafts have to be replaced with shorter one's if I put in offset trailing arms.

No cutting needed.

I'm sure VanSteel will chime in but from what I've read that the normal offset arms require no mods only the double offset arms require a modification to the spring.

I know this is a little further off the subject but can any say how much of a difference that you can get from moving the e-brake bracket vs going with the single offset arms? Dave.

I was able to jump from 8" rear wheels to 10" wide wheels and I went from 4" stock backspacing to 5.5" BS. This was on my 79, but an extra inch is about all you get more room inwards...

Be aware I think Groovyjay has a C3 which has wider fenders... I don't know even with offset arms you will be able to run 10" wide rims without fender flares...Also the backspacing will different in your application. Dave.

I am not sure there is that much bang for the buck in using offset trailing arms.

Wheel backspacing is really what you are trying to maximize, in other words, the amount the inside rim sits from the wheel mounting surface. Overall wheel width will depend on fender dimensions as youwish2bme has pointed out. However, as far as backspacing is concerned, the C3 spring, t-arms, and sway bar are similar in location to the C2. The frame kick up may be slightly different.

I am running 5 inch backspacing on 17” wheels with stock t-arms (they have been modified to move the parking brake bracket on top). The closest interference I have is the stock sized rear sway bar, followed by the t-arm, followed by the frame, followed by the rear spring. (I have a Guldstrand 7 leaf which is the shortened version.) If I wanted more backspacing, it would first require shortening the sway bar. With a shortened sway bar, and offset trailing arms, I might gain another quarter to half inch before I hit the rear spring. If I shortened the rear spring further, I’d have a solid gain of a half inch before I hit the frame. Every car is a little different, but the wheels I am using came off an ’80ish C3 and he was at the limit for backspacing on his car.
