Hi Guys. I recently bought all new wiring harnesses for my 65 convertible. I have finished the task and everything works great except the dash lights are really dim . I have installed a new headlight switch and all new bulbs. Getting the dash bulbs in there is absolute hell as I guess most of you know Any ideas regarding what might be the problem ?
Thanks,
Bob
my guess... either bad ground on inst cluster or rheostat not turned up enough. alligator clip a test lead to cluster and good gnd on vin crossbar. measure voltage to bulb socket also.

Try plugging in the old headlight switch as the rheostat portion of the new switch could be at fault, as suggested measure the voltage the cluster bulbs are receiving.
Thanks! Unfortunately the old headlight switch was trashed which is what, among other things, started this whole journey. I have turned up the rheostat all the way & only got very dim results . Good ground sounds like a good idea. Thanks again

What do you mean "really dim"? depending on the bulb number, it may not be that bright by design. (unless your using your old bulbs )
Take a bulb and hook it to your battery and "see" what kind of brightness there is with a known full 12V on it.
I agree with chuckievette about the rheostat, it may be the cause.
as was mentioned, take note of the voltage at a socket at both min and max of the rheostat.
