Default Decoding engine #'s

I have a new motor in a 67 coupe but got the old one w/ the puchase of the car.
Block #'s read casting 3935439
18S418031 TO418031
What is this motor out of. And how do you decode them.
In essence what does each # mean.
By the way Vin # of the car is 194377S111297
Any help w/ what was originally in the car would be greatly appreciated.

By the way I love this site, and appreciate all the info.Believe me I need it.

Thanks, Shemp

Your big block is out of a 68 or 69 passenger car or Corvette. HP ratings are 385, 425 for the passenger car applications and 390, 400, 430, 435 for the Corvette applications.

Take a second look. The T0418 is for Tonawanda NY assembly plant, April 18,1968. This engine was made after January 68 and used in 427 applications thru early 69. It went into vehicle S418031, which looks like 1968 serial #18031 Corvette. The final stamp letters(031) however, should be : IL,IM,IO,IR,IT, or IU depending on what horsepower, carburation and transmission was originally installed.

What heads, intake and carb are on the engine? They have numbers also, and may be the 67 items that originally came with your car.

The # is T0418IL. I wrote them down wrong on the message.
If you can tell me what it means from that it would help.

Thanks again for your help,
Shemp

'67 VINs don't contain any information on the car's equipment - only says it's a '67 coupe built on February 20, 1967.

If your car still has the original tank sticker in readable condition you should be able to ascertain what equipment it originally had and the dealer where it was sold. After 38 years though its a big "if".

These are the #'s on the engine w/ TO418IL on it. I haven't looked @ the #'s on the engine now in the car.
Head #'s 3917215 Manifold #'s 3937793
Is it even worth searching for the original engine, or just enjoy the car as is.
Tried Dmv in Md. for title search. No luck Any suggestions

Is the tank sticker on the bottom or the top of the tank. And what is the easiest way to get to it. Also a friend told me there might be a build sheet under the seat. Is that true.

The tank sticker is located on top of the tank. Open the fuel filler door , pull the left side of the rubber seal and peer into that space with a flashlight to see if its still there. If so you can lower the exhaust, remove the spare tire carrier and drop the tank. The have been instances where delivery sheets has been found inder the dash or under the seats. Most delivery sheets were disposed of during dealer prep.
