Sorry GM Jim, but I did not see a part by part price breakdown on their site, but since nobody's buying the kits one piece at a time what are you asking ?

You also said you can put any TKO in Vette w/o removing the engine, but please remember you can't just install any TKO in a Vette w/o removing engine unless you are willing to do some cutting elsewhere on the frame or body.

I hope you did not misunderstand me. I was saying that to me, other than the shifter assembly, the whole CC5S kit and their website text looks like a copy. I'm definetley not saying their shifter mechanism is like ours as you mistakenly mis-quoted me.

Since you mention it, I am curious as to how your 5 speed is different on the inside.

Just didn't want to leave things muddled up.

This is getting old. I read the posts and don't feel they are unclear except maybe I should have asked for a comparative parts list for the kit. What you get and what brand they are. Also MY 5 speed isn't different. Theirs is!

Default 5 speed conversion

Sounds to me like Keisler is mad that another company jumped into the sand box and started playing with the Corvette toys.

Remember boys that its a TREMEC transmission and the modifications needed to make it fit into a Corvette are not that complicated if you have access to good engineering. I am sure Corvette owneres will like to have 2 companies to look at and not just one.

Now that there are 2 companies out there, any one company that says they have the ONLY KIT that will work is just trying to blow smoke up your you know what.

I don't get this.

I've been toying with the idea of doing a swap.

Keisler is $2990

http://www.keislerauto.com/gm/transm...ette_63-67.asp

The other place is $3349

http://www.classicchevy5speed.com/De...7_Corvette.htm

Both sites show exactly what's included...

I just finished the swap using the Keisler TKO 600 . With all the extras including a clutch the price was $3804. There are some items that you definitely want such as their yoke assembly which allows you not to have to press the universal while the trans and driveshaft are in the car (painful). Also there is still the issue of the parking brake assembly (67) which I haven't resolved yet. And don't forget the clutch fork pivot ball and throwout bearing which has to match the application. Having said all that I still think the trans is great with short precise throws and great feel. I would do it again.

Best regards,
Gerry

Default varies between $200 to $350

Looks to me like the TKO 500 kit is $350 more but the TKO 600 (.64) kit is $200 more.

Most people (70% to 85%?) I have heard buy the TKO 600 (.64). Few people buy the TKO 500, toooo low of a 1st gear.

The 600 .64 OD is the most popular TKO transmission and yes it is only $200.00 more, but the quality and engineering put into the shifter is awesome. I think anybody who is going to do this swap in their Vette would prefer to go with the best parts. All I can say is do your homework before you lay out the cash. What I like about the CC5S kit is the McLeod Scatter shield (bell housing). It retails for $50.00 more than the Lakewood but you don't have to align it or worry about the paint chipping off and rusting. With a Lakewood housing you have to buy dowels and align the housing before installing the TKO. If you align it yourself you need a dial indicator and a couple hours of patience if you're lucky! If you pay somebody to do the install they will certainly charge you for their time to align it which could easily surpass the $200.00 difference in the kit. Do your homework guys. Save your money for the $2.60 a gallon gas.

My tko500 kit is going in this weekend. Supposed to be a perfect fit. We shall see. Looking forward to it.. Keisler has been great so far. Hope their hotline works if I run into problems.

Default Tremek conversio

I started this thread to learn the differences about the two conversions and we have all learned what they are. Thanks to all involved. Thank you all and now I would like to take you all out for a beer. I'm hot on making this conversion, but family and work life has intruded a bit and it's on the list.
