Default Question Lite Switch

..can anyone tell me how to remove the light switch? do I have to remove the guage cluster or is there an easier way? How does the **** come off of the shaft.......I see a button and spring, I thought if I press that I could remove the whole shaft but it doesnt move out...

Any help would be appreciated!!

You need to get the **** and rod out of the switch first, the button spring thing is the trick. Try pushing the light switch all the way in then push on the button and pull out on the ****, it may take a few tries but this is how it comes out.

Once you get the out, the bezel (outside chrome piece) needs to be un-screwed. It may be a bit tricky if you do not have a special wrench that fit into the groves in the bezel, but I have done it with a cloth and pliers, being very careful.

assemble in reverse of dis-assembly.

Hope this helps,
Chuck

I do not see any reason to remove cluster.. you should be able to get the switch out with cluster intact

Replaced mine last spring and it's not too difficult and no, you do not need to remove the cluster.

First, disconnect the battery. Pull the light switch out and then reach under the dash. There's a small button on the bottom of the switch that you push in and then you can pull the **** and shaft right out. From there, unscrew the bezel as Vette-66 said.

Nothing beats having the proper Corvette shop manual, which has the trick you need to know.
