I've had a 283 engine block (Casting # 3789935) for @ 25 years and I'm having trouble determining what it came from. The Engine Identification Number on the pad is: FOI3ID. I can't seem to find the casting date. Is it from a 61 Vette??? Any ideas???
Casting #3789935 was used on some late 61 C-1s but the block you have does not have a Corvette HP- Trans code on the pad. The casting date is on the opposite side where the casting number is.

All I can add is that the F0I3I is the engine assembly date, and it equates to Flint 0I (January) 3I (Day)
So that motor was assembled in Flint Michigan on January 31.
Very frequently, you'll see "1" and "I" used interchangeably.
Don't know what the "D" denotes. Those suffixes denote the horsepower/transmission combo of the original usage......NOT Corvette in this case. Corvettes use a two letter suffix, DA, DB, DC, etc. Chuck
