Default NOM "283"

Need Help on a block!
I currently have a 350 in my 61(vin10867S102014)Birthdate of 25 Oct 1960. This gentleman has a "283" 519 block with a cast date of J140.
Would this work for my car? And if so, what would i need to have the engine assembly identification indicate. 270hp 2X4BC, Hi-Lift Cam & Manual Transmission(Code CU).

Should fit without any problems ( dah... small block chev ) As for the numbers... stamp it up like the other authentic ones. I bet it will even drive different !!!!! ( as long as your going to all the trouble, head to the top and make it a fuel car ) Don't forget the "orig" window sticker...

Will never be an original! but at least iam trying to make it correct. Thought i could get some answers here or suggestions on this block casting date and if it was to close to vehicle build date.

well, you are asking us to advise you on how to restamp a NOM as if it were the original engine - that's gonna be a touchy subject on any forum, no offense. Debates rage on for pages and pages as to the ethical propriety of doing so, with strong feelings on all sides of the issue. Maybe we are just too tired to get into it again right now; I am.

good luck, you can probably figure out what you need to know just by using that little search function we have here.

I started to write a response to the unsolicited comments above but, it is just not worth it.

I do not know the guidelines for a ’61. But, if it is the same as for a ’63 then the block date of October 14, 1960 is OK for a car birth date of October 25, 1960. I don’t know anything about the other ID.

For something different:
Change the car configuration to match the block suffix!

(Sorry if I offended anyone, the devil made me do it.)

The casting number and date will work fine for your car, and those two items carry most of the points for the block from a judging perspective.
