BB Casting Date

Looking at a friends recently purchased Barn find. I know small blocks only. Is there a casting date on BB motor? Al w.

big block is just like a small bloc when it comes to casting number locations.

I know that this is correct, but I have another question. There is some other cast information that I found above the oil filter area. It is: " HI PERF PASS K 21"
What does the "K 21" stand for? I think the other casting date by the started is J15.

Many blocks had the "Hi-Perf Pass" cast-in above the oil filter - doesn't mean much except it identifies the standard-deck-height casting. The "K 21" is a mold number.
