Default AFB help

I have a 64 300hp, pg, I bought rebuilt 3461s from Autozone"Champion", the vacume port is manifold vacume not ported vacume so the vacume advance is pulled all the time, when I step on the gas it retards I get a stumble and it will not idle down very well. The Champion tech guy said that AFB is not made to have ported vacume. What am I missing? Duane

Search this forum under "ignition timing" or ignition settings". You will find a wealth of imformation. In particular, your vacumn is supposed to be connected to the manifold. With this and the proper initial, and advance settings you will cruise very nicely.

Connect the vacuum advance to an intake manifold fitting.

There was no such thing as "ported vacuum" in 1964 - your original setup had full manifold vacuum to the distributor, which is what you want. The "stumble" has nothing to do with the vacuum advance - that's a carb problem. Check the accelerator pump and idle mixture screw adjustment and set them properly and you should be in business; you can't just bolt on a rebuilt carb "out of the box" and expect it to operate properly without "tweaking" it for your combination.
