Default Holley float bowl part-function question

What is the function of the slide-in plastic shield that surrounds the needle/seat assembly in a 4150/4160 Holley? I inadvertently left it out of my 3367 rebuild and put the carb back on the car , and I'd rather not take the carb off & apart again. I'd rather bag the part and put it back during the next rebuild a few years down the line.

Somebody else may have a better memory but I think it was an anti-slosh shield. Eliminates flooding.

If it's out of your carb and everything is okay for the way you drive it, I wouldn't worry too much. Put it back in next time. But then, it's only a few screws. The choice is yours.

It's called a "vent whistle". It was designed to reduce slosh into vents which could come out into venturis and also to reduce siphoning out of vents.

Jim,
"Vent whistle" is a new term to me too, but vent whistle it is. I'll leave it out for now, since I'd rather get the car started and running ASAP.

Thanks

Lou

Correct - it's also a splash baffle that keeps bowl "slosh" from interfering with incoming fuel flow. The "vent whistle" is a completely different part (white plastic) that keeps raw fuel from leaving the bowl through the bowl vent.

It did sound like two different parts were being discussed here, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for clearing up the confusion!
