Default Engine Numbers
I have a chance to pick up a nice running 396 for a spare. The numbers on the back drivers side are 2969854, any idea what it is?

I'm thinking that number should be 3969854 not 296 and is a late 1969 396 375hp engine. Little more research we'll find out.

Gregg,

Sorry, you are correct it is a 3 not a 2. Still, it is a great running 396 and for a grand, from 780 duel pumper to oil pan, plus new clutch, water pump, rebuilt clutch fan and bell housing, I don't think I can go wrong. Tks -
