Default Need Advice

I am considering buying a convertible top frame from Couffmans. Has any member purchased one of these frames and do they fit as good as an original. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Default I bought one.

I bought a top frame from Coffman Corvette about a year ago for my '61. The quality was good and it fit almost perfectly - I had to hogg out a few holes on the passenger side rail at the front bow as it was about 1/16" too tight on the side window. I spent many hours moving the frame, window and door but ultimately had to adjust the frame by making three holes oval shaped to find the room.

I did not have an original to compare it to but from what I know it is a near perfect knock off. It is my understanding that Coffman makes the frames for virtually all of the catalog resellers so you can save some $ by buying direct. You can save more by having them bring it to a swap meet if you can wait until spring.

Frankly the C-1 frames are a Mickey Mouse contraption so be prepared to spend a lot of time getting the frame to fit right before you even think about mounting the top material. For that I suggest buying or borrowing the Al Knock video. It is boringly slow but there are a lot of good tips within. Use common contact cement to affix the fabric to the frame (he does not mention that). Another tip: First dry fit the rear bow weatherstripping as you adjust the frame so you get an idea of how that should sit on the rear deck. That's where most of the adjustments are made. Then remove the entire works and mount the fabric.

Good luck on the project.

Default Convertible Top Frame

I believe they are the only company making the top frames and top parts for all of the vendors.
