Default Pully reinforcement date code

My pully reinforcement date code is Dec 04 but the engine stamp date is Dec 03 which seems kind of strange. I think the pully reinforcement was a design change so maybe this was a cross over point? The birthday date was around Dec 15. Any ideas to explain the later date? Always wondered. (car is a 66 with Dec 65 build)

You're fine - the pulley reinforcement was installed at St. Louis, not at Flint Engine, and you can't see it anyway with the pulley installed (which is why water pump date codes aren't judged either).

John, thank you and your response which I believe also solved a second item which I always wondered about. When you stated, "you can't see it anyway with the pulley installed ", implies the pully reinforcement is on the inside of the pully and not on the outside which is where I have it. Does it belong on the inside of the pully and not between the pully and the fan assembly?

This would explain the alternator belt not 100% perpendicular if the answer to the above is YES.

Thanks again,
John

Yup, it goes between the back side of the pulley and the front side of the water pump hub flange.
