Default NEED HELP with ID

Helllo everyone this is my first post in this section. I normally hang in the C5 section but I've got a friend that is looking for some history on a car hes had for the past 15 years. He's wanting to get it running again and wants to enjoy it now that he has the funds to make it so.

Can someone shed some light on the info listed below

1966 Coupe

A-1956 Body
976 paint
E30
Style 66 437
Trim 450
Vin 194376S110546

Thanks for all the help

Rob
well, I am sure someone else will beat me to it (we are helpful down here in C1-C2 land) but here goes:

A-1956 Body - that's the body job #, each of the two body plants (A.O. Smith and St. Louis) ran their own body nos., sequentially). This car is an A.O. Smith body (the "A"), which is important info for some issues.

976 paint - that's the ext paint color code, Nassau Blue in this case

E30 - this is an unidentified code on the trim tag, it is the body built code, here it translates to a Dec 30 body build date for an AO Smith car. Not the same as "birthday"

Style 66 437 - a 66 coupe

Trim 450 - interior trim code, here white and blue vinyl - two tone interior

Vin 194376S110546 - not too much info from a C2 VIN, aside from the ultimate birthday of the car (approx January 10, 1966) and whether it is a coupe or vert (here a coupe)

if car has original engine, the engine stamp pad will provide info on original config and date of engine assembly

Hey Jackster,

It's fairly easy to do, but your confusing me here.

The original engine is not there. Is there anyway to determine what the correct motor was. Also the vin says its a Vert? but it looks like a coupe. Is there anyway to tell if the vert was modified to make it a coupe. It sure looks like a coupe. One last thing. It has a stinger hood. Was the hood only found on the big block cars or could you order it on any car of the day?

Thanks for all of the help

sheesh - I typed "coupe" for the body style code didn't I ????

yes yes yes I had vert on the mind when I typed the VIN info portion of my response, which was wrong wrong wrong (I have just used up my "admit to being wrong" quota for the entire year in one fell swoop with that) - fixed it.

well, nice to know we have good (and quick!) fact checkers at least!

how did I do with the rest of the info? Aside from the b-day and odd interior color code, it was from memory (tricky thing is to get the month code for AOS bodies right, as it is one off from the St Lou code in 66).

The stinger hood only came on 1967 427 engined cars.

Now it can be found on any year/engine Corvette.

A big block 1966 would have had the "Power Bulge" hood. The small block car would have had the smooth hood with the raised spine down the center.

wow, see the trouble my fat fingers started?

COUPE.

there are clues as to what engine was originally in there - tach redline, oil pressure gauge, and certain BB clues. As for the hood, do you mean it has the stinger - scoop hood seen on 67s? Because the 65 - 66 BBs got a different hood - power bulge, it has been called. My car in the photos at left has such a hood. If it has the 67 stinger hood, that would have to be non-original, but not at all unusual as many C2s are running around with stinger hoods, I would have done it too if I was 18 and owned a SB 66.

you are forgiven for ignoring what I write, but I did say you could find a 65-66 BB hood in my photos at left, here is the 65-66 BB hood (on a 65 SB, btw):

{edit - just saw my car appear in the above post, so no need to double up on that pic . . . .}

nice that you used Mitch's 67 L88 too, went right to the top for that one!

It does have an oil pressure gauge and the tach redlines at 5000.

nope, 5300, 5500 or 6000 are among the valid answers for a 66 REDline, sure that isn't the yellow line?
