Default Confused!!!!

OK. As stated in an earlier thread, I have bought an original 1964 hood to replace the Stinger hood that is currently on my 64. Here's where it gets weird. Inside the engine bay, the hood support location is on the driver's side. It looks factory.....There is NOTHING to suggest the hood support was ever on the passenger side. The original 1964 hood I bought here on the forum has the support location on the passenger side. Keep in mind THIS IS JUST A NICE DRIVER......What do you brilliant minds recommend I do to get this original hood back on my car?

The hood support on my 63 is on the passenger side - I assumed the 64's were the same. I am interested in hearing from some of the 64 owners.

The previous owner of my '64 installed a '67 BB hood with stinger. I just checked and the support is on the driver's side, with no indication whatsoever that there was ever a support on the passenger side.

As your Vette is a nice driver (as is mine), I'd just do what ever is easiest and molests the car the least--either convert the '64 hood to a driver's side support or mount the support bracket hardware on the passenger side inner fender and leave the hood alone.

My $.02 would be to leave the driver's side support location and convert the hood. Either way, good luck

I would change the hood instead of the car since the car is probably original. This is easy to do by measuring and drilling the two holes on the drivers side of the hood. Then cut a slit in the hood's inner channel and then insert a threaded nut plate with adheisive to keep in in place. Then tighten the bolts down on it to hold it until the adheisive sets. Once it sets, glass the slit opening back in and repaint the hood's underside. Bolt the hood prop back up to it and you're done.

BTW, I was the first one to inquire about your old 67BB hood for a friend and still have not received an answer.

My stinger hood is on the drivers side and my 64 has a/c. No sign of hood support ever being mounted on passenger side.

Thanks. Getting close to getting rid of it. I'll PM you about the Stinger Hood.

My 64 is an A/C car, convertible, battery on the driver side, hood support is on the passenger side. All original as far as I know (except for the engine). Original small block hood.

"probably original" - sure and all of the other 1964's were done wrong. The real world tells you that probably the whole front end on this car is NEW since 1964.

Well excuse me! - Since I have no clue about 64s, you have me on that statement.

GM did move the hood prop from side to side quite a bit during the Midyears' run, even within the same model years.

But, given his situation, I will stand by my statement that it would still be easier to mod the hood since the inner fender is molded to support the weight of the hood and he already has the bracketry on the driver's side. I had to do this to mount the 67BB hood on my 65SB with the hood prop in the stock location on the pass side.

Okay I wasn't going to post on this one but it's gotten the better of me.. No 64 should have the hood support on the drivers side. Someone in the past 40 years has modified your fender support to fit a 67 hood with the mount on the hood being located on the drivers side.

Your options are as Mark stated and that you can cut a slot in the side of the 64 hood and rivet a plate in there. The other choice is to purchase the correct passenger side mounting plates.. Just the way I see it... Dave..

I've started an earlier thread with this question but has anyone noticed that on a numbers matching C-2 with a big block, you'll never see the hood support on the passenger's side?
Whats the significance of this, if any?
