Anyone ever try the hinge that lets you remove the hood by using a quick release and pin arrangement? Distributed by American Freedom Products they sell for $180. They were shown in Corvette Fever, Jan. issue. Seems like a good idea to me but do they work well?
while at carlisle last year(2005) i had a chance to see demo of the hinges. looked like a good idea and well made.
but, there is always a but. you must still remove the bolts for the prop rod. the demo had already removed bolts. i guess you could just leave them out. but quick checks under the hood may be difficult.
If it were me, I'd be fixing whatever it was that caused me to spend $180 dead presidents to get the hood all the way off so often.
Of course you could weld a 1/4" collar on each side of the hinge after you removed the rivet and then you could stick a pin through the hole. Just pull the pin and the hood comes off. You oughta' get by for $10-$15 dollars.
