Default 64 Headlight Help

How the heck to I turn remove the headlight housing on my 64. The car has been sitting for a long time so I assume they are rusted. They are in the down position. Can I manually turn them up or do I remove them somehow in the down position? I put a battery in the car and they won't come up.

I think I'd check for voltage at electric motors that move the headlight buckets up and down. The pivot shafts could be rusted to the pivot ***** if they have not been used for a long time. The manual way to raise the headlights is to raise the hood and reach under the nose from above and you will feel a **** on the end of the headlight motor. Make sure to put a bolt thru the hood support so you don't have an accident.. Those hoods hurt when they pinch your hand between them and the nose. If the headlights will raise and lower with the mechanical method then I would check for power at the connector for the electric motors.. Dave

You should be able to hand-crank them up. Reach down in between the hood and grill and there is a wheel on the end of the motor. Will take quite a few turns but if it's not frozen, should crank it up.

Hood is off so it should be easy. And if they are frozen then what?

If they are frozen (pivot shaft/*****) you'l need a chassis service manual which contains disassembly instructions.

Most likely not completely frozen. If turning the headlight motor manual gear and the headlights still do not move it could be that the headlight motor drive gear could be caput. Then the next step is the removal of the headlight motor which is only held by one bolt and a clip. Then try and move the headlight bucket after the headlight motor is removed. If the headlight bucket still does not move than the pivot shafts are frozen. Then it becomes a little more complicated. You will have to try and remove the headlight buckets. Dave..
