I Am Redoing The Dash And Have Seen A Replacement Dash Pad From Romeo Engineering That Is Reasonabley Priced And Looks Okay. Everyone Is Pushing Al Knoch As The Dash To Use. I Am Not Going To Bloomington Only Want A Decent Dash When I Am Done. Any Guidance Will Be Apprciated.
The installation is a relatively major job. You only want to do it once. Use the best you can find, and be sure it is the color you want. The windshield has to come off, steering wheel, gauge cluster, grab rail etc.
Like I said, you only want to do it once.
I agree with those who say they the reproduction stuff usually isn't as good as original.
One of the exceptions to this is the stuff I've gotten from Al Knoch. From door panels to dash pads, it's all unbelieveably well made, just like the original! Everything lines up! To me, it's worth the extra couple of bucks. The dash is one of the most visible items in the car.
I would go with Al Knoch. I just replaced one this past spring. It's not only about the quality of the outer vinyl but also about how good a job they do trimming the foam on the under side. this is what can make or break a quality job. The Al Knoch dash I used required very little custom contouring to get a good fit. I have heard many other people say they have spent a large amount of time trimming the foam down on the back side to get a good fit. I have used some Romeo trim parts and they are OK but I wouldn't recommend a dash from them. Al Knoch has this down to a science. Good luck
