How Long...
i've had my '65 for two years. I've never done any work on cars myself but because of not being able to find any local mechanic capable of working on the car correctly I've given up and i'm learning to do my own work.
I ask a TON of questions on the forums because everything I try to do is new to me, I have no clue how to do it so I ask even the most basic questions you could possibly ever image at times.
Many, many times I feel like I'm just taking, taking, taking from the forum without contributing also but i've been told by many people that that is not the case at all. Although my questions at times are so basic that I sometimes feel they are below the level of the forum, that I have a tendency to ask questions that others also wonder about but are either too embarrassed to ask or they THINK they know the answer to but really don't.
By asking questions it start a discussion and a lot of good information comes out that others do benefit from. That in itself is a contribution to the forum.
I've revcieved many emails from people actually thanking me for posting certain questions or starting certain threads because they were wondering the same thing that my question asked but they were afraid to ask, or that they realized that from other replies that the method or procedure they used for a long time to do something was incorrect or not the most efficient way to doing it and from the replies in the thread they learned from it.
Besides that, when you read the posts others put up you learn yourself and you will remember a lot of the information you have read so when someone else eventually askes the same question again in the future you may be anble to answer them based on what you learned from prior posts.
than again......... sometimes my questions get so basic that some forum members have commented that my posts and threads are just too painful to read........

bottom line, everyone here is here to learn and/or contribute in some manner or another. It's all just different way for each member.

Don't feel like a sponge extracting the knowledge on the Forum. Hopefully you will soak up this knowledge and spill it out to others new to the hobby. Besides, I think many CF members are happy to share their knowledge, knowing they have helped somene.
I agree good place to learn how to work ony our Corvette also I had some GREAT menbers sell me items i need at a reasonable price..
One way to contribute to the Forum is to become a "supporter," either a "Silver" or "Gold" Member. Helps support and maintain our Forum which, like everything else (inluding our Vettes), needs financial help to keep running.
Click on the "User CP" link near the upper left corner of this page, click "Paid Subscriptions," and see if there's a category of support you feel is commensurate with what you're getting out of the Forum.
Trust me, I have no vested interest in generating contributions to the upkeep of the Forum other than the reality that I spend more useful time on this site each day than on any other non-work related address (and more than most work related addresses!!).
Go for it. You'll enjoy the nice silver or gold stars under your name each time you respond to a thread!

I couldn't agree more with BarryK's comments. This truly is the greatest support net for C1/C2 Vettes out there". Been a member, read this a user...quite frankly a sponge like you for over 5 years, I've come to the slow realization that I need to start giving back. That's when I gave financial support for this forum. Like others here, I've wanted to contribute back but, quite frankly, felt uncertain about what is and isn't right for the midyears...believe me, I'm still learning.
Many of the real experts here (SWDUKE, JOHNZ and others) who were around at the plant when these cars were built have truly been helpful...at the risk of many times repeating themselves...they never seem to tire of educating the rest of us. THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
I've come to the conclusion that helping covers a broad range...from just pointing someone to a reliable source for service or parts to the "how to do it" yourself sequence of removing, cleaning and or replacing a part.
I continue to try (and I think that is the basis of this great forum). Everyone really tries to give the truth in helping others here.
BarryK has most recently contributed to my education on sound systems and components. He has taken the time to "walk me through" the how to do its.
All I'm saying here is we are all benefiting from this and over time we all attempt to point/help out. Believe me if I don't know the correct answer and respond to a fellow forum member with wrong info, enough of the good folks here who do know will right the record quickly. Although I'll feel sheepish, I move on hoping to be able to "give back" down the road.
Regards,
Jim
and I make lots of wrong turns......... starting with the thought that if I buy a restored car I won;t have to worry about anything other than oil changes and driving it!

oh, that thought got destroyed real fast after plunking down the $$$ to buy the car!
