Any recommendations for an engine stand? Mostly for storage. Also for being able to move a large heavy object. Rotating the engine is nice, but not necessary. Would also be nice to be able to attach a bell housing and transmission.
The engine is a 1962 (model year) 327.
I've seen the Moto-Feet one. It attaches to the engine mounts on the side of the block. Not sure if the 1962 327 block had these mounts.
I use the MotoFeet stands, bolted to a pallet with casters on it, so I can attach the flywheel/clutch/bellhousing/transmission and roll it out of the way when I'm not working on it. All blocks after '57 had the standard side motormount bosses.
I personally like the Moto feet style for storage. It keeps the engine low and out of the way, and you can attach a bellhousing and tranny and shifter for mock up,and it fits all small block Chevys. The typical engine/build stand is good for just that ...engine building. Then there is the full blown run stand.....
I got the same one that John posted except I bought wheels for it. You can see it below in my sig.. Works great as it's low to the ground, you can attach the bellhousing and the tranny and two men can pic up a motor using it as handles.. Dave.
