Default 67 tires

What would be the correct tire maker for a 67 roadster 350hp, I have the original 15" rally wheels, so I am guessing 7.75 x 15 but who would be the right maker Firestone, Goodyear, Goodrich, was there a US Royal tire back then. Then my choice is whitewall or redline, correct? The car is red with a white top, if that matters at all. Thanks

For what it's worth, my 67 (435) originally had blackwall Uniroyal tires. And you have the correct size based on original specs. A 205/70 radial is probably your best bet if you want to drive the car.

Were blackwalls standard with whitewalls and redlines as optional? I would like to make the car as original as possible, I checked the spare and that is not the original so it won't help. I haven't checked for a tank sticker but that would be the only documentation I would have. Any suggestions on the correct route to take. The previous owner put bolt ons with radials on the car, but I have the original rally wheels also and I'd like to put the correct tires on them for judging. Thanks

If you're going to have the car judged, the judging manual outlines the various manufacturers. The tank sticker will provide the tire option, if any. If none, it is a blackwall car. Even if you have the tire option or lack of it, the tire manufacturer will not be listed. It could be various vendors and would be a guess. There is a new reproduction redline tire being manufactured that is much closer to the originals in style, as long as you have four of the same style on the car, you're in good shape. You can even have a different style spare since NCRS judges the spare separately. The point deduction for reproductions will be minimal.

The reproduction tires are all bias-ply, which are like driving on marshmallows; you have to decide if it's worth $900 or so to reduce your point deduction from 18 points (OEM brand radials) to 6 points (DOT repro bias-plys); 12 points is peanuts in the overall scheme of 4500 points. Just one of the 30 Operations items (lighter doesn't "pop", squirters don't work, clock doesn't reset, etc.) is a 25-point deduction, which is double the point loss for radials you can drive on.

Thanks to all, the previous owner put on BF Goodrich Momenta S/E P205-75R15 tires on, would they do for OEM brand radial tires? Is there a book that lists and shows all the judging criteria and point deductions? Thanks

the correct bias ply would be Firestone Delxue Champion. but if you go with a radial tire for judging I don't think it will matter

BFG was one of the original OEM '67 tire suppliers for blackwalls and whitewalls, so those would qualify as an "OEM brand later service replacement" tire.

The NCRS 1967 Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide and the NCRS Corvette Judging Reference Manual are the two books you need; they're available at the NCRS on-line store at www.ncrs.org.

You can get a full set of the 1967 judging score sheets with all the detail point allocations from Roy Sinor, the National Judging Chairman, if you're an NCRS member; he'll e-mail them to you in .pdf format. If you're not a member, you can join on-line at the NCRS site, and you can also find your nearest local Chapter to join under the "contacts" button.
