Default Stumped: Code on rear diff housing

I'm pretty sure this is not original to my car and I'm not even sure it's from a Corvette. Any thoughts?

DA 209 W7E1 (the D may be an O, but I'm pretty sure it's a D)

Casting date is either G127 or G121

Thanks!

There was never a "DA" Corvette axle code - it's probably "OA", which was only used twice - '76-'77 3.08 Posi, and '82 2.72 Posi. The '82 had the aluminum "batwing" diff, so that leaves the '76-'77 application for yours, and the G 12 7 casting date would be July 12, 1977.

The "209 W7 E1" says it was assembled on the 209th day of 1977 at Chevrolet-Warren, with an Eaton Posi unit, on first shift, which makes sense with the July 12th casting date.

Thanks for the reading. Looking at some of the books I have, I was confused, particularly by the 7 after the W. I had read somewhere that the manufacturing location code did not always follow the usual order after the gearing code. Might explain why this car with a NOM 396/375 is a little lazy??

Thanks again!!

There were wide variations in C2-C3 diff ratio/date code stampings over the years, and not all of them follow the published format; some are dated using M/D/Y, some are M/D only, some are Julian-dated.
