I have a 63 roadster that the odometer is locked up on. The speedo works fine, and when I took it apart the odometer appears to be frozen, and I could not figure out how to free it up. Anyone ever deal with this before?
very common problem on with Corvettes.
Speedo works Odometer doesn't....The odometer drums themselves sometimes are the problem and sometimes the gears that drive them mess up.If the drums go bad more than likely the gears that drive them go bad.
Alot of people try and just find the gears and drums...later to find out its off calibration after they take it apart, some send them out.
I am shocked, SHOCKED to learn of a C2 with a broken odometer!
actually, as Jason points out, this is incredibly common, and the odo and speedo are not hopelessly related, meaning the od can go out while the speedo still very much functions . . .
The odometer on my car was broken for years before I bought it. Good for the seller, bad for me. Turns out the 66,000 original miles was more like 266,000. That's o.k. tho, I felt better replacing completely worn out parts, rather than replacing ones that were "so-so".
