Steering column rotating with the column

Steering column rotating with the column

I have everything in place and bolted down.. column no longer jiggles, but rotates when I use the turn signal. What prevents this?

Is just the upper housing moving, or the column tube too?

The tube as well.. I made sure that the tube locked well into place into the housing before I installed it in the car.

If the steering mast is firmly secured under the dash and at the firewall, I'm not sure how it can rotate.

Go to the post below and look at the diagram. Is the steering mast what is rotating or, just the turn signal housing?

Wow I just noticed.. there was no mast clamp on mine! So I need that obviously. As far as the underdash ubolt.. do I tighten that to my hearts content?

I'm traveling so I don't have access to my information to tell you what the torque setting is supposed to be. Don't over-tighten, though as I would guess you could bend the mast tube.

All the steering column attachments, parts, and torques are shown in the '65 Assembly Manual in UPC 9, sheet 4.
