proper resistor voltage
installed a 383 in the car, and around 4800 rpm had ignition stumbles....checked the voltage on the stock (250 hp) resistor, and only had 4.5 V on coil side...put a new one on, and now has 10.3 V on coil side, down from 13.5 at ign wire...car pulls good to 6000 rpm, but, am wondering if that many volts will eat points...always thought resistor should carry around 7-8 V....what do you guys think??

Disconnect the wires from the resistor and check the resistance across the terminals - should be 1.7-2.3 ohms. Voltage at the coil (+) terminal can only be checked accurately with the engine running.
