Here is a real close up of a 66 Milano taken with a flash. Note the small metallic reflections in the paint. 66 milano Close-Up
That's not Milano too red. My 66 is milano and its original paint and there is NO metal flake in the paint. Get the number off the vin and order the correct paint. This isn't a good shot of the car but this is the correct color for a 66 milano. She's in the shop right now getting suspension work & new gold line diamond backs.
This is a Vette I looked at a couple of weeks ago for a friend. Not the original paint. The color looks very different in different lighting. Here are two shots of the same car with and without a flash. But your right. Get the paint code and go with that.

Wow that's a difference all right. w/out flash that is the color of my 66 but I still don't see any metal flake in my factory paint. Maybe that's why w/the flash the car you shot looks red?

Yep, it looks more like Marlboro when the flash hits it.

I just got my '65 Milano Maroon painted last year and it definitely is suppose to be a metallic paint although the level of metallic in it is small and the size of the flakes are very small. That's one of the issues in trying to match up the new paints with the old colors, the metallic flakes are larger so it's a compromise. Even the old lacquer we stripped off had metallic in it and my painter has been specializing in painting older vettes for 30 years and has done a large number of Milano Maroon cars during that time and he confirmed it was suppose to be metallic as I had the same question when I first decided to get the car repainted

Barry, your right. I went over to the shop today to check on the progress and my 66 was sitting in the sun. I could see very small metallic in the paint. Never knew it was there? learn something new every day.
