Work collegue of mine suprised the (bleep) out of me the other day as we're passing in the hall. He stops me and pointed out he saw me getting out of the C4 I just picked up a few weeks ago and ask me how I liked it.. I rave on... He asks me if I'd be interested in a classis vette. Always interested in a deal I reply "What do you have?" To my shock and disbelief he tells me he has a 1958 in his garage that he has personally owned since 1961!!! He needs to sell it because he likes the C5's and has no more room in his garage. He goes on to tell me it's going to need a little work but it's in decent enough shape to be driven (OMG!!!) He also tells me he stopped driving it in 1972 when he bought his 1967. (hairs on the back of my neck are at full attention at this point!)
Here's where I lost it... I asked him how much. He tells me 12K.. I held the straightest poker face I've ever maintained. (Don't want him to see I'm REALLY interested!) I tell him I'd be interested for more around 10K. He tells me to come by and look at it. Obviously the rest of the day is a total waste (I think I have adult attention deficit disorder
I checked it out tonight. It runs (needs work, he said it hadn't been started in 3 or 4 years.) but I don't know if it drives. (we couldn't move his project car out because it was on jackstands.) It doesn't have the original motor in it. (it has a 327, 4bbl... but he does have the Fuel Injection intake manifold.) Needs a paint job (paint has lost its shine) It IS complete (not one chrome trim piece missing.) I offered him a grand to hold it while I decide. He agreed.
My question: Should I buy this for 10K? If he insists on 12K am I still in a good deal?
Better grab it while you still can.
I could go into all the one's that got away,
but would be a waste of time. well........
Mainly Shelbys 65-67, 427 Cobra-(real one) ect.
Even though its dirt cheap, still ck it out.
Some things that are too good to be true, are.
Dont forget to get every scrap of history & parts.
Easy to forget in the heat of the moment.
You should certainly buy the car, even for 12K. Even if you just park it for a few years before you get to the restoration. You will not regret this !! Even just as an investment, you could hold onto it as is and sell in a couple years.
If you don't buy it I will pay you a finders fee. I would like to do another one. 12K is dirt cheap for that year. Maybe you shouldn't buy it and make some money from me instead. ;)
I don't really think you should buy it. Wuold you please send me the phone number, I want it! You could part it out and make a profit. Good luck, I hope you do get it.
