Default rocker studs

I just noticed that i have the push in style of rocker stud instead of the threaded version. Should i pull them and upgrade to the threaded??

I can pull the studs by stacking washers underneath of the m and then tightening down the the nut.
However, i am not sure if i can tap the holes straight up without any problems. the heads are on the engine
What do you all think??

Leave it alone until you go to rebuild the motor. Dave

You have to pull the studs then mill the heads down to put studs in there. It is allot of work. Cheaper to but heads that are already done.

As long as you don't have a big cam that needs strong springs yours will work fine.

You can always get one of these:

I wouldn't want to be tapping a lot of holes with the heads on. Think of all the bits of metal everwhere.

Default Studs

You may consider pinning the studs. If the studs are otherwise OK, check out if your machine shop will pin the studs. I had it done to my 66 and my 68 small block. I think it was $100 for a pair of heads. A small hole is drilled at the boss of the head where the stud enters the casting. The hole is drilled through the boss and the stud and set with a drift pin. This will keep the stud from walking out. Jerry

That will work, but it also makes a stud repair/replacement extremely difficult unless there's enough of the pin sticking out to get a grip on it to pull it. You can also use plain threaded studs without the hex on them; just tap the existing holes 7/16"-14 (no tap-drilling required) and install the studs, and there's no machining required on the bosses like there is for the hex studs.
