no, i have more clearance this way. the other two ways it rubs, so i just rotated it 90 and it clears by about .5 inches. each engine is different as i have seen a ton of setups.
I have a zz383 with an Edelbrock Performer manifold, Holley carb and my stock drop base air cleaner in my 66. I also have a small block hood. The car is in for a paint job now and I changed to a 66 big block hood. My motive is to change the Performer for an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap now that I have more hood clearence. You have fit the RPM Air Gap under a small block hood. I have Vortec heads. I was just curious if I was going to be OK with the taller RPM manifold.
I also could not get through your link to your pics.

will keep trying to post pics in the thread. i thought i had done it correctly but it pasted the link instead. i will reread the posting pics thread. thought i was good at this. tis a bit humbling.....
dont get me wrong, many spent dollars on air filters to see what would fit. many drop bases, small filters etc. turned out one of the cheapest fit the easiest. if you buy the foam and wire triangular edelbrock filter from any auto store, you can cut bout an inch off base that does do anything anyway. i then drilled holes in base where my nuts from sd carb was holding it up. then i taped those closed from inside so nuts kinda fit up in air filter base and turned it 90 degress to center the filter in the tunnel of hood. it fits. barely but fits. i have the remnants of others in garage and wife is really not happy. oh well. thre is a couple of filters that come out split then go to either side of engine and that is really low profile too, but they want like 300 for those. not worth it to me.
thanks, no real other way to go, will see if i can pull it back a bit, but dont think so. need to keep it away from headers as well. at least it is braided so somewhat protected. not like just a rubber hose.
