Default Holley Carb Problems

I'm really mystified. I had my stock holley carb for my L79 Vette rebuilt about 8 months ago and couldn't have been happier with the performance and driveability. But now I've got gas pouring out of it and flooding my car to the point that I can't keep it running. I'm told that 99% of this kind of problem is related to the needle valves. I've had both of them out numerous times and cleaned and blown them out numerous times with no change in my problem. I did change my fuel pump but stayed with a stock AC pump, nothing special. Anyone with any ideas for me to pursue would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Marv

alot of times when a needle gets to leaking because of trash or whatever, you just need to replace it....id make sure to have a good filter inline somewhere...not just the rock filter in the carb.....also,,be sure of the float level.....

When you cleaned the needle and seat, did you readjust the float level, or did you just stick it back in?

Do a fuel pressure check on the pump (to determine if the problem is pressure related).

Your options are either pressure related, or float valve(s) not sealing. This can be due to crap in the gas/tank (and/or a defective gas filter), or the float is either sunk (has a leak that has caused the float to not "float" as high as it should), or the float is binding against something in the bowl (bent float arm causing the float to rub on the side of the bowl). Or just a float valve that is worn and leaks!

Hi Marv,

If the gas is pouring out of the boosters (the round rings inside the carb throat), it is probably a blown power valve. Very common on Holleys. Easily replaced by removing the primary float bowl (no power valve in your secondary).

Marv - just, one of the priviledges of using a Holley.

Hope to get the wheels you sold me on the car this month. I'll e-mail a pic.
