Default '66 4-speed shifter boot problem

I bought a new shifter boot for my '66 4-speed car about 5 years ago.The restoration got a little behind schedule so I just tried fitting it today. What a piece of crap. As you can see in the picture below it isn't even close to fitting nice.
Has anyone bought one recently and was pleased with the fit? I will add the old one to my collection of unusable restoration parts.

I replaced the boot in my 66 4 speed with a piece from LIC. It fit perfect.

Just replaced mine ...looked just like that and turned out fine

p.s.....guess the ashtray rubs the boot just a little.....and makes it a booger to get out after you press it in on that new rubber.....when i finally did get it back out i put a very light coat of oil on the contact area...good now .......
