Default Red Flag.

Is it just me, or are we (the forum) being used? http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1387230

Poster has not filled in his profile (not a big deal, but location and year vet is nice). Only has posts on documents (fake?) pertaining to '67 L88 options.

Note: I'll delete this thread if the original poster would be a little more forthcoming.

It sounds to me like he's creating a fake window & tank sticker.

When I first read his question, I, too, thought "what an odd question, unless he's planning on faking some documentation."

The "destination charges" question, in particular, seemed like the specificity of information that would be helpful in providing such granular detail that a prospective buyer would assume that the rest of the data provided might be correct.

Hopefully this individual will respond to our suspicions with a plausible answer as to the rationale for his inquiry. Otherwise, jerk the jerk off our Forum.

same poster asked other questions about wiondow sticker info, albeit in a fashion that was a little more likely to not raise our suspicions:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1385418

even so, his earlier queries struck me as looking for info to put INTO a window sticker, rather than detect a fraud. My post would have asked him to put the suspect window sticker up and we could weigh in, but I didn't go there.

I disagree. If I had the info, I would mail it out. I don't want to become an extension of the NCRS or join the originality police.

If I worried about defending the world against people trying to create desireable collector cars and their documentation, I would still frequent the NCRS site. The site is supposed to be a tech board, but IMO political and judgemental remarks abound there, so I come here.

NCRS is a fine club and they do a great job creating events and judging cars. Their national convention road tours are great. I wish I had the money it takes to have a Corvette to drive and one (or several in some cases) to trailer to judging events. Good for them.

Please don't try to turn this forum into a place to judge people who are just asking for information. I realize that the information could be used to inflate the value of a Corvette, but why should that concern anyone but buyers of collector cars. There are lots of forums for them. I would like this to continue to be a place where people share information (and even parts - "pay it forward") with fellow Corvette owners. If you disagree, that's OK with me, but I hope you reconsider.

I don't see how being concerned about possibly helping someone fake up a tank sticker (and then perhaps selling a C2 with fake documentation supporting the much higher price a documented car would fetch) makes you a part of the "NCRS origianlity police" - it simply makes you a part of the anti-fraud police (using "police" in a general, verb form). But I suppose we can agree to disagree about that - but I would urge you to not let your [obvious] animous aginst the NCRS get in the way, I happen to think those who misrepresent C2s with the aid of fake documetation are a problem in our hobby, and that view has nothing to do with being a lover or hater of the NCRS.

I don't dislike NCRS. I am an old member. In any group there are a few zealots. I just prefer not be one of them, or to support their views.

The NCRS people I travel with and see at various functions are long standing friends. We have fun together and enjoy driving and talking about Corvettes.

PS: I will admit to sitting at lunch and dinner tables with senior NCRS officers and judges who engaged in fierce enough aguments with each other (over issues like the one that this thread addresses) to make me avoid meals at their tables in the future, but that doesn't equate to animosity.

with the jackster.

I am also not one to care much for originality or if a particular car is "Top Flight" but it floats some owner's boat. What I do care about is some low life passing off a 'put together' as an original L88 in order to scam a buyer out of tens (hundreds?) of thousands of dollars. If I were selling fake oil well stock I'd land in jail.

I and, I gather, several others do not like being used to perpetuate a fraud.

You can't use the the words fetch and animous in the same post. It has to be against some forum rule. I'm also in shock over the use of aginst, documetation, and origianlity.

Dadgum lawyres tryeng to use all dem big werds. They shuld at leest now how to speel dem.

I saw right through that guys post as well, but I can't say I really care anymore, as the majority seem content to sweep impropriety under the rug for the sake of not hurting anybody's feelings and having happy thoughts.. Boo-F'n-Hoo

It's not that I can't spell, it's that my typing skills suck big time. My usual modes of communication (MS Word, Lotus Notes) are set to run spell check automatically, which I have now become hopelessly reliant upon, I'm afraid.

[ps - please note the correct use of the contraction "it's" twice in the above sentence - a real pet peeve of mine when I see the improper use of "it's" - a contraction of "it is" - and its - a possessive pronoun]

I did notice a big cheer went up when you announced that you were no longer going to fight against the fakers and fraudsters . . . .. why you leave me hangin like this?

I know you can spell. I just found something humorous in that that you would use a word like animous in a post with the word fetch and all those spelling errors, and thought I would bust your ***** as you are one of the few that can take a joke. I would guess at least half the people here would be looking for animous next to Mickey and Minnie at Disney.

I have succumbed to the will of the masses. No more shoveling schitt aginst the tide. From now on I will just post in the threads of the noobs that get screwed buying these documented jewels, and it will happen.........again just like in the past, but hey it's okay at least we didn't cause any controversy, or god forbid have an open discussion about it, and of course the most important thing is that we were PC and didn't hurt anyones feelings. Well maybe that's the second most important thing.......of course the most important thing is that it doesn't affect me so who cares.

While its true that a fool and his money are soon parted....truth is they were probably lucky enough to just find each other in the first place.

So spend away noobs, and don't forget to check out the great deal on the Last '67

Maybe fsc66 has left the building. One hit wonders fade fast. Obviously he has not read any other threads but his own or he would have discovered this one and responded.

Now another has joined in (mike70).

It appears that fsc66 has posted a picture of a real '67 L88 build sheet/tank sticker. However his profile is still N/A.

Why do I still feel like someone is messin' with us.
