The 014 block was used for many years from '69-'79 in passenger cars and trucks; that one was cast at Tonawanda on August 22, 1973. What's stamped on the front pad?

It has been painted over.. so I cant see. What would the front pad tell me? How do I know if it is 2 or 4 bolt without dropping the pan?

No way to tell if it's a 2-bolt or 4-bolt without dropping the pan. The stamping on the front pad will tell you the original application of the engine and its assembly date, and there should be a VIN derivative stamp there too that says what it was originally installed in.

What would be a good spark plug for this motor? And what to gap them at? The plugs that came out were Autolite 26 gapped .39. I figure the Autolites would be fine maybe.. but what to gap them at?
