Default Frame number decoding

My frame has the following letters and numbers stamped twice on the top of the left frame rail.

SI06246

Can anyone decode this for me?

Mark.

It's the partial VIN derivitive, the serial number of the car that the frame goes to.

S =St Louis

106246 = the 6246th Corvette built for ??? year. They started with 100001 as the first car.

You have nothing listed in your profile, and don't give the year of the car. Chuck

The VIN, vehicle identification number, or serial number for that 62 would be:

20867S106246

That number should be on the tag spot welded to the steering column.

If you have the original engine, you should see

2106246 stamped on the left side of the engine pad in front of the right side cylinder head.

Then you'll see something like F0101R? on the right side of the engine pad.

F is Flint Michigan, 01 is January, 01 is the first day, and the R? or S? would be the original horsepower and usage either

250, 300, 340, 360 HP RC, RD, RE, RF for manual trans, SC, SD for automatic trans. Chuck

Default Thanks again

Chuck,

Once again thank you for your info.

Unfortunately I have none of those original parts. It will be what you could call a Vetterod.

Cheers,

Mark.
