What year 427 are these valve covers from?
Just picked these up at a swap meet, the guy said they were off a '67 Corvette, but not sure, any opinions? Thanks[IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

More pics
I have Noland Adams book and there are several pics of original 427's and none have that bracket on top of the passenger cover, although my book only goes to '67. I was on Crane's site, they seem to make some of the best repro valve covers, and I saw a pic of a rebuilt engine with a similar set of covers with that bracket, but they were painted. They were on a tripower engine, but they year was not specified.
I was thinking someone may have chromed these, or they are off a later vette or camaro/chevelle?

No original BB valve covers were chrome on mid-year Corvettes. The bracket on the passenger valve cover is correct for a 66-67 Corvette with AIR injection (smog). This bracket holds the diverter valve. These could have come from a 67 Camaro or a 66-67 Big car since those cars did have chrome valve covers or could be Corvette covers that have been chromed.
Since AIR injection did not become mandatory until 1969 all Corvettes with 4 speeds, these covers would have come on a car with the AIR injection option, probably a car sold new in California since it was a required option for cars delivered new in California. AIR injection could be ordered on any Corvette without regard to delivery destination. I had a 67 BB with smog that was delivered new in Cocoa Beach Florida.
The driver's side cover does have the correct rear slant on the valve cover for a mid-year and early BB's installed in other Chevrolets. The drippers inside the valve covers are normal and appear correct as best I can tell with the pictures provvided.

Thanks, that helps explain it....
That makes sense about the passenger side bracket. I'm in Reno, and I think the guy I bought them from was from California. I imagine these are more rare than the non emissions type. Hopefully I can sell them and get a correct set for my '66. Thanks

All 68 vettes had AIR, and the bigblocks had chrome valve covers, but I dont know the details well enough to tell you if those would be for a 68 corvette.

Not necessarily would the car have power brakes! The "dent" on the "driver's" side valve cover was on all BB valve covers used on 65-67Vettes with or without power brakes. The dent was there to clear the booster as you noted however the same valve cover was used on both power and non power brake cars.
The valve covers were installed at the Tonawanda engine plant, not the St. Louis assembly plant. The Tonawanda engine facility had no idea as to what options the car in which any engine was installed would receive.

I had friend with a 69 tri power, and those looke exactly like it. I think in 69, all BB covers had the dent, not true for 65-67 BB covers without PB.
I have never seen a 65-67 cover with chrome.
My best guess is they are of a 69 427.
