is it accurate that there is no timing adjustments allowable with a FI distributor?
i just purchased a complete FI setup and there is the distributor spacer that has an alignment pin that runs from the distributor to the intake manifold (when lined up, the vaccuum advance can is in the exact location, i'm just surprised that you wouldn't be able to move the timing a few degrees in either location.... or am i missing something?
there is no real description of the FI distributor in the Shop manual.
The clamp band mentioned holds the upper moveable body to the lower immovable body. Just loosen it with a screwdriver and you can turn it all you want. It's really a lot easier than the conventional distributor clamping set up.
Found it.... funny... i looked at that clamp and said... hmm, wonder what that does... LOL
thanks
Aaron,
Get that unit on and let's check it out! What are you using for an air cleaner? Did you pick up your Z yet? Let me know if I can be of any assistance.
the Z has landed... it is incredible... not as quick as the vette, but amazing in every way...
the FI is going on this week...i'm waiting for a oil line kit and wiring harness for the bypass solinoid from John Degregory... the unit came with a KandN filter that just attaches to the air intake.... it will work just fine, but i'm going to save up some cash and get a Podell setup as soon as I can afford one.
I'm going to take the Z out this afternoon and move it to a garage... if you have some time, give me a call and i'll show it to you.
We had around 24 Vettes including 4 midyears and straight axle at Drink's tonight. I think most people were gone by 730. Also had an interesting offer. The owner of Drink's Saloon offered me his bar for my car. Told him no deal the bar didn't sound like as much fun as the car.
i'll cruise by later thsi week to show you my new Z.
Aaron
Who Me? Your kidding, the tire is still flat. Actually no, but we have been concentrating on the Yellow 88 for paint. I think you saw how we repaired the nose bumps with those stainless rivits, we then started from the back and refinished everything and block sanded perfectly smooth on the skin up to the doors. The right door looked good but it wasn`t. But with only 28K on the clock I guess I could have taken better care of it while it was sittin indoors for the last 33 years. Good thing we are well equiped here to make almost anything fiberglass or metal because we had to rebuild the metal inside top of the door for the outer window whisker and reglass everything back together. It`s already been block sanded and the glass should cure overnight and be primed and finished tomorrow. By the way, I can show you how to creat a Corvette Forum "My Corvette Pictures" gallery for yourself when you stop by.
Here are two pics of the Z.
i'll get some more today... this is before i was even able to detail the car.. the manifolds need to be cleaned, and it is very very dusty... but still very presentable.
John Z,
it appears that youve got a 68 Spoiler on your car.
is that an early car? was the ZL2 equip added?
thanks
Aaron
The "short" spoiler was used through March (and mixed with the new "long" spoiler in February and March) - mine is an 02D car, built the last week in February - the spoiler is original. The ZL2 hood is original to the car (as is everything else except the battery, tires, hoses and belts). Just turned over 34,000 miles last summer. It was sold new in Canada, so I have all the GM documentation.
