Does a Distribution Block (67-68) serve the same purpose as a proportioning valve (69)? Can you run a disc/drum setup on a 63 utilizing a distribution block?
You will need a proportion valve to adjust the front to rear braking evenly or your back brakes will lock up way before your front brakes start to work. The distribution block will not work because it doesnt regulate or adjust fluid pressure at all ,it is only in the system for the brake light pressure switch. The four wheel disc set ups regulate front to rear pressure by using different size caliper pistons in the rear (smaller).
Hope this helps.
You'll also need a dual-piston master cylinder set up for discs/drums; the drum half of the system needs an RPV (residual pressure valve) in the master cylinder outlet, and the disc side of the system does NOT use an RPV.
I purchased a dual master cylinder and combination valve setup which is preset for disc/drum.
Do I still need a residual pressure valve in the system? Does it make a difference if the valve is mounted next to the master cylinder or under the floor?
There are three different kinds of dual master cylinders - drum/drum (RPV's in both outlets), disc/drum (RPV only in the rear outlet), and disc/disc (no RPV's in either outlet); make sure you have the right one. The RPV for the drum side of the system is internal to the master cylinder (behind the brass seat in the outlet), not in any external device.
Can you post a photo of the combination valve you have?
